Turf Talk: Peace And Co to undergo surgery after second short-priced defeat

Peace And Co will undergo a minor respiratory procedure following his second short-priced defeat of the season at Sandown on Saturday.

Last season’s Triumph Hurdle hero finished last on his seasonal reappearance in the International Hurdle at Cheltenham in December and while he settled better in the Contenders Hurdle, he still appeared below his best in finishing third.

Trainer Nicky Henderson said: “Following his run on Saturday we have been looking at Peace And Co’s respiratory (system) and although there is not a whole lot to see or hear, we feel cauterizing his pallet, which is a fairly straightforward procedure – without the need for a general anaesthetic – would benefit him.”

Henderson added that Peace And Co would only require a “a short period of rest, which will not affect his intended participation at the (Cheltenham) Festival”.

God’s Own, meanwhile, can confirm his place at the Cheltenham Festival by making a triumphant return from his winter break at Kempton.

Tom George’s eight-year-old was last seen finishing third to Vibrato Valtat when attempting to repeat his previous season’s success in the Haldon Gold Cup at Exeter in early November.

Entered in both the Betway Queen Mother Champion Chase and the Ryanair Chase next month, God’s Own has his prep run in the Racing UK 3 Devices 1 Price Graduation Chase.

He certainly has plenty of smart form to recommend him, probably no better than when he was second to Un De Sceaux in the Arkle Trophy last March.

Although George will have left a bit to work on ahead of another big date at Cheltenham, God’s Own is sure to be fit enough to put up a good show.

After a string of poor performances, Tinker Time returned to form at Ludlow in early December with a seven-length call over Goodtoknow and can do the business again in the Rasher Frith Memorial Handicap Chase.
