Rosner ground his way to a bruising victory in 95 minutes against Omar Mosaad from Egypt in the semis while Gaultier dealt economically with Miguel Angel Rodriguez in a three-game, 51 minute match that him fresher legs for the final.

At this time of year, putting matches away in under an hour can be vitally important, and it showed in the final.

The Frenchman had energy in the tank that Rosner was probably lacking.

And with such a considerable background in major finals he came out a strong winner of the title in three straight games and 43 minutes of play.

Amanda Sobhy, from the USA, won the Texas Open in Dallas the week before last against a strong field of players including Rachael and Natalie Grinham, Jenny Duncalf and Emma Beddoes.

Sobhy beat Egypt’s Nour El Tayeb in the final to secure the biggest win of her career so far.
