Wharfedale give survival hopes a shot in the arm with six-try victory

Rejuvenated Wharfedale beat fourth-placed Hinckley 44-19 in National Two North to continue their fight to avoid the drop.

Second row Kieren Frost led the six-try demolition with two of his own with Phil Woodhead, Oliver Cicognini and fly-half Tom Barnett adding to a penalty try. The bonus point win means Wharfedale can still escape relegation with two games to spare.

Otley climbed two places in the table with a 17-12 win at bottom-of-the-table Sheffield helped boost their hopes of avoiding the drop – while Sheffield face a tough final three games if they are to escape relegation.

Tries from winger Paul Petchey and full-back Tom Hodson, plus both conversions and a penalty from scrum-half Joe Rowntree, helped Otley take the points.

Harrogate were 24-0 winners at Morley in the North Premier League, but it wasn’t enough to continue their promotion hopes with Hull’s victory meaning Harrogate can’t now move up to second.

Tries came from centre Keane Naylor, replacement Evan Woodworth, winger Harry Barnard and full-back Oli Rosillo gave Harrogate the win, while Morley are confirmed as finishing in the bottom three and are relegated.

Bottom side Pocklington scored five tries in a 31-20 win against Sandal – only their second league victory of the season – but it wasn’t enough to save them from relegation.

Elsewhere, Ilkley ran in six tries on their way to a 42-12 victory over higher-placed Lymm.

West Leeds ran in six tries on their way to a 38-13 victory over West Hartlepool, with winger Danny Booth and centre Tom Jackson both scoring two tries.

York secured the Yorkshire One title after scoring four tries in a 25-25 draw with rivals Heath.
