Club rugby: Freescoring Wharfedale continue climb up the league ladder

Wharfedale's climb up the table continued as they emerged 43-5 winners from their Yorkshire derby with Huddersfield in National Two.

Charlie Graham bagged a brace with Kieran Frost, Robbie Davidson, Phil Woodhead and Dan Stockdale also crashing over. Tom Barrett added five conversions. Huddersfield’s player coach Michael Piper scored their only try late on.

Otley were also victorious in a Yorkshire derby match, winning 28-17 at home against Sheffield Tigers.

Tries from centre Jamie Broadley and full-back Pete Swatkins helped Sheffield into an early 14-0 lead, but Otley hit back with centre Jack Mackie, full-back Thomas Hodson and wing forward Joe Graham all touching down to put them 17-14 ahead at the break. Joe Rowntree kicked two penalties and Ben Bell added a fourth try to secure a bonus-point win.

Harrogate made the best of heavy conditions as they won a tough game against Morley 12-0 in the North Premier league.

All of the scoring came in the first half with flanker Guy Coser forcing his way through for a converted try and then prop Andy Boyde crashed over in a similar fashion shortly after.

Ilkley ran in three tries on their way to a 21-3 win over Lymm in their North Premier clash, while Hull’s match at Kirkby Lonsdale in Cumbria was postponed because of ground conditions.

Old Otliensians breezed to victory in the RFU Junior Vase on Saturday, beating West Hartlepool TDSOB 72-0. Winger Alistair Booth and flanker Joe Armitage both scored hat-tricks.

West Leeds took their 12th win of the season in North One East with a 41-17 defeat of West Hartepool. Sam Neave, Angus Milbourne, Joe Bedford, Dan Baxter and George Carpenter scored their tries with the rest of their points coming from the boot of Dale Breakwell.
