York City Knights forced to switch stadium for double-header with Wakefield Trinity

York City Knights announced that the event on Sunday March 22 will instead be switched to their present home Bootham Crescent after continued issues getting their new ground open.

A statement read: “The club have been informed via GLL (stadium operators) that the builders, Buckingham Group, have failed to provide the information required for the test events to occur.

“Neither party are willing or able to provide new test event dates at this stage.

“However, thanks to the support of Sky Sports and the co-operation of all the clubs involved, the event will now take place at Bootham Crescent.

“The Knights would like to sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused by the change in venue. We share your disappointment and frustration, but rest assured we will work as hard as possible to make this event a success, and showcase our fantastic city to the world.

“The event will feature the Super League fixture between Toronto Wolfpack and Wakefield Trinity and forms part of a Mothering Sunday rugby league double-header with the Knights also playing the Betfred Championship Round Six fixture against Featherstone Rovers on the same day.”

Elsewhere, Hull KR are awaiting a specialist’s report on Ben Crooks’s neck injury which may sideline Super League’s top try-scorer for up to six months.

Rovers will welcome back George Lawler, Jordan Abull and Harvey Livett from injury for Sunday’s trip to Wigan Warriors.

Castleford Tigers back-row Alex Foster could make his first appearance in 12 months after recovering from knee surgery and being named in their 21-man squad ahead of tomorrow’s game at Warrington Wolves.

Prop Liam Watts (finger) is out but hopes to return next week.

Wakefield’s Tinirau Arona makes his own comeback from long-term injury in the squad to face Hull FC, who bring in Connor Wyne and Joe Cator for injured duo Jake Connor (knee) and Adam Swift (hamstring).
