World Cup is just the ticket as organisers look ahead to 2021

Ticket details were today announced with children able to attend games for as little as £2.21 when the competition gets underway.

On the back of the financial hit caused by Covid-19, the tournament – which sees the men’s, women’s and wheelchair competitions staged together for the first time – will also offer interest free payment options and a raft of promotional offers for those who buy tickets this year.

With 21 venues across England, there is already plenty of scope for fans to witness events unfold but a prime example in Yorkshire is the chance for a family of four to watch France v Greece in the men’s tournament at Doncaster’s Keepmoat Stadium for just £35 in a half-term special.

RLWC2021 chief executive Jon Dutton said: “I’m delighted we can offer the most accessible, fair priced and highly anticipated RLWC to fans not only here in England but also those from across the world.

“This tournament will be unique with so much world class Rugby League action and wherever you look you can see that the tournament provides great value for fans.

“The flexible and competitive pricing means most tickets – more than 80 per cent – for the men’s tournament are less than £50, with tickets across all tournaments starting from £2.21 for children and £10 for adults.

“There is a real opportunity for fans to not only support their own nation, but also the realistic and affordable possibility of seeing some of the other high-profile games and maybe adopting a second team in the tournament.”

In light of the pandemic, to offer further confidence for supporters, organisers will provide full refund on tickets should there be Government restrictions which lead to reduced capacities or if the event is cancelled due to circumstances out of their control.

Priority access will start on September 21, while a public ballot will open on October 23 – with any remaining tickets going on general sale from early 2021. Fans will be able to apply for up to 10 tickets across the 61 fixtures and up to six tickets for the final.

Although the RLWC2021 does not start until October next year, of more immediate concern for rugby league fans is what will happen in September this year.

With that in mind, Super League were able to confirm the bulk of next month’s fixtures yesterday with a return largely to Thursdays and Fridays.

Leeds Rhinos’ Emerald Headingley and St Helens’ Totally Wicked Stadium – bio-secure venues – will continue to stage games over two days.

Headingley welcomes sides for Round 11 with Salford Red Devils v Castleford Tigers at 2.30pm on Thursday September 3 clearly an unusual kick-off time.

However, Super League “requested” the time in order for the game to be televised live, like all the other fixtures.

Round 12 begins with a double-header that sees Hull FC face Wakefield and Castleford against Warrington Wolves at the Totally Wicked Stadium on Thursday September 10.
