Women's RL: Leeds Rhinos are relishing new challenge at the Warriors

Leeds Rhinos Women's team celebrate their victory over Bradford Bulls.

Rhinos won 32-16 at defending champions Bradford Bulls in their opening game two weeks ago, when Wigan thrashed Featherstone Rovers 54-0.

Leeds were without a game last weekend and coach Adam Cuthbertson admitted training earlier this week was below-par.

“I could see how frustrated the girls were,” he said.

“They were really up for the Bradford game and there was a lot of hype about the win and to have a week off made it really hard.

“It’s a rollercoaster ride all rugby league players go on and they are keen to go again.”

Cuthbertson stressed: “They are ready for it, it is a big match for us.

“Bradford was a big one, but Wigan is going to be different, they have to travel over there and it’ll be the first time they’ve done that as a group.

“They are really looking forward to the challenge.”

Rhinos came through the win at Bradford with no major injury problems.

“We’ve done a lot of work on strength and conditioning,” Cuthbertson said.

“That has been really beneficial for us.

“We are ready for the Wigan game and I’m sure the girls will put on a good performance.”

Cuthbertson will be on duty for Rhinos’ men’s team at Hull KR tomorrow afternoon so assistant-coaches David and Anthony Gibbons will be in charge of the side.

The twins are former Leeds players and featured in the first Super League season, in 1996.

Meanwhile, Castleford Tigers, who began their season with a 62-0 win at York City Knights last week, are at home to Bradford Bulls tomorrow and Featherstone Rovers visit St Helens.

In the Women’s Championship, Stanningley play host to Wakefield Trinity tomorrow and Oulton Raiderettes are away to Barrow.

East Leeds are at home to Hull Wyke in Championship One.

Tomorrow’s games are all scheduled to kick-off at 2pm.
