WIGAN WARRIORS boss Adrian Lam is expecting a backlash from Leeds Rhinos tomorrow.

Rhinos will travel to Totally Wicked Stadium on the back of a 48-0 thrashing by St Helens a week earlier and Lam predicted: “They’ll come out at 100 miles an hour.”

Wigan’s win over Wakefield Trinity last Sunday took them top of Betfred Super League, replacing Rhinos and Lam said: “Games against Leeds have always been big and this will be no different.

“It’s a big game for us because we don’t play the week after and we want to make sure we leave nothing on the field.

“If our attitude and enthusiasm matches them, I think we’ll be okay.

“It’s going to take a few weeks to get back to our best and the important thing is we’re still winning in that period.”

Wigan’s players will wear a special shirt in honour of Rhinos hero Rob Burrow, pictured above, who has motor neurone disease.

“He’s a legend of the sport and we wanted to show him and his family what he means to us,” Lam said.

“The players are very supportive of it and we’ll do anything we can to help.”

Lam recalled: “I played against Rob in my last season – I remember him running around me like I wasn’t there and it was about that time I realised I needed to hang the boots up!

“He reinvented the game with his stature and speed.

“He had a lot of success at Leeds and I’m sure a lot of young players there looked to him.

“The idea came from our leaders, Ian [Lenagan, Wigan’s chairman] and Kris [Radlinski, head of rugby].

“When you get these situations it’s very difficult for everyone to deal with.

“We wanted to acknowledge the part he has played in our sport and as a competitor against our club.”
