Wakefield Wildcats 36 Warrington Wolves 28: Chester aims to back up home success on the road

Wakefield led 30-6 just after half-time, but Warrington cut the gap to only four points before Ben Jones-Bishop’s try sealed an eighth win in Wildcats’ last nine league and cup games.

Wildcats had three players sin-binned in the second half and Chester said: “All credit to the boys, it was a very, very courageous performance.

“They dug in when they needed to.

“The amount of possession Warrington had in the second half, they really gave it to us, but we just kept turning up for each other.

“We were very, very good without the ball in the last five-10 minutes. I am very, very proud of the boys.

“It was probably the most courageous, spirited performance from a group of players I have seen in a long time.”

Wildcats scored four tries before the break and Chester added: “I thought we were very good in the first half.

“We were the better team in the first half and Warrington were the better team in the second half.

“We created some fantastic opportunities and scored some really good tries. In the second half we started pretty slow and our contact wasn’t great, but I’m delighted we got the result.

“I wasn’t feeling very confident with five minutes to go, but credit my boys. They defended very well in those five minutes and deserved the win.”

“Results have gone for us this week and it has pushed us up the table another two spots.”

Wildcats – bottom before Easter – are now sixth, just four points outside the top-four and five ahead of Hull KR, who are ninth.

Chester said: “I didn’t envisage this when I took over. It has been a great journey and a great ride we are on.

“I knew they had the quality of players available and we just needed to get these guys to start believing in themselves.

“We have turned over a few teams at home, some top teams.

“It is all about being consistent now and making sure we match that home form when we go away.”
