Trinity, who play host to Leeds Rhinos on Sunday, are seventh in Betfred Super League following last Thursday’s 11-6 defeat by Castleford Tigers and a 27-26 loss at Hull two days ago.

But Kirmond insisted: “The mood is still pretty good.

“We have lost four in a row, but I think we are in a decent spot still and we have been really competitive in games, which is important.”

Sunday’s derby could be just what Trinity need, Kirmond reckons.

He added: “They are massive games, against Leeds.

“Both sets of fans really get into it, they love the rivalry and I think it brings the best out of both sets of players.

“Both teams play some really good, attractive rugby. It should be an entertaining game and it’s one we are looking forward to.”

Kirmond missed both Trinity’s Easter games due to injury, but hopes to be available this weekend.

“I just had a small tear in my hamstring, which I got against Warrington,” he confirmed.

“It has been frustrating more than anything, it has not been too painful or stopped me doing too much, but it was a bit risky to play a game with it.

“We didn’t want to make it any worse, but hopefully I’ll get sorted for the next game and I’m looking forward to getting back out there.”
