Wakefield Trinity: We must back up Saints win with victory at Devils - Chester

THE EPIC victory over St Helens will be wasted if Wakefield Trinity slip up this week, coach Chris Chester has warned.

Trinity ended their five-game losing run with a stunning 24-20 win against the Betfred Super League leaders last Sunday.

They visit Salford Red Devils in two days’ time and Chester stressed: “As much as the result was great at the weekend, it is important we back that up with another strong performance.

“It’s all good and well winning that game, but it doesn’t mean a great deal if we don’t back it up. We have got a really important five or six weeks coming up, we’ve had a bit of a losing streak and we want to try and go on another winning one now.”

Prop Dave Fifita was today due back from visiting family in Australia. He has been resting a persistent groin injury and Chester said it would be “ludicrous” to risk him against Salford. He added: “We’ve no fresh injuries and a fully-fit squad. I can’t see there being major changes, if any.”

Tom Johnstone, Pauli Pauli and Ryan Hampshire were left out against Saints and Chester said: “The players who came in did a good job. Joe Arundel was very solid in the left-centre and defended very well and Bill Tupou moved to the wing and was defensively very solid.

“Anthony England really gave us a lift off the bench and Baldy [Jordan Baldwinson] only played 22 minutes, but he did some good things defensively and he’ll be a lot better now he is up to speed with how we play.”
