The 20-year-old joined Trinity on loan from Huddersfield Giants in August and went on to score four tries in eight appearances for Wakefield.

His deal has now been extended for the whole of the new campaign, which is due to begin in March.

Senior said: “I’m excited to be joining Wakefield again in 2021 after an enjoyable spell last season.

“The group made me feel really welcome and I’m now looking forward to kicking on and enjoying 2021.”

Trinity coach Chris Chester reckons Senior will add to competition for the wing and centre roles.

“Innes was a welcome acquisition when he joined us last season and I was really pleased with his performances in the red, white and blue,” Chester said.

“To have him here again in 2021 will add some quality depth to our backline options and I’m looking forward to welcoming Innes back when we return for pre-season training.”

Giants’ managing director Richard Thewlis insisted Senior has a “long-term future at our club", but stressed he needs to be playing regularly next year.

“His issue is one that will face many players of his age in the game in 2021 with no reserve competition and the RFL having removed the dual-registration option,” Thewlis said.

"Everyone here feels that to improve significantly he needs regular game time and it was seen from his spell at Wakefield towards the end of last year how he benefited from that.

“It’s a tough call for us to make, but Wakefield are keen for another year and Ian [Watson, Giants’ new coach] is comfortable with the numerous options we have on the wings to be able to let Innes have a year out and work with Chris Chester across at Belle Vue.

"The future is difficult to predict in rugby league, but we do see Innes as being part of our club going forward, but for him this is the best move at this stage of his career and one that he was very keen to take.”

Meanwhile, former Castleford Tigers and Featherstone Rovers half-back Tom Holmes has left Giants and is expected to join a club in the Betfred Championship.
