Briscoe’s previous deal was due to expire this autumn, but he has re-signed for Rhinos until the end of the 2020 season.

The 28-year-old is the third player to extend his time at the club in less than a week, following winger/centre Ash Handley and prop Adam Cuthbertson.

“I’d like to think the best years are ahead,” said Briscoe, who has scored seven tries in 18 appearances this year.

“I can’t think of any better place to spend them than Leeds Rhinos.”

Capped 15 times by England, Briscoe, 28, joined Rhinos from Hull at the end of the 2013 season and has scored 55 tries in 113 games.

His record five tries against Hull KR in the 2015 Challenge Cup final earned him the Lance Todd Trophy as man of the match.

He was among the scorers at Wembley in the previous year’s win over Castleford Tigers and bagged a brace in last year’s Betfred Super League Grand

Final triumph against the same opponents.

He also scored a reviving touchdown at Huddersfield Giants in the comeback win which secured the league leaders’ shield four years ago.

Originally from Featherstone, he said his aim was always to win a new contract with Rhinos, where he has played in four major finals, winning them all.

“I saw no reason to look elsewhere,” he confirmed.

“I am pretty settled here.

“We have won a lot of silverware in the last five years and it’s something I want to continue.

“I want to be part of the group moving forward.

“At the minute we are going through a bit with injuries and transition within the team, but looking ahead we are going to be good for the experience we are going through at the minute.

“The young lads are getting some good game time and when we get everyone back fit I am sure we’ll be challenging.

“We’ve been through it before, in 2016 and hopefully we’ve learned a lot from that.

“Hopefully we won’t get as low as that season got and we’ve learned from the mistakes we made, so we can stay out of the middle-eights.

“Hopefully we can scrape some wins over the next couple of weeks to stay within touching distance of the top-four for when we get some players back.”

Briscoe told the Yorkshire Evening Post last week he was in talks with Rhinos and he stressed: “I’m delighted to have got it all sorted and to be staying for the next two years.

“When you’re coming out of contract obviously you try and put it to the back of your mind and concentrate on what you need to concentrate on, which is rugby.

“That’s what I’ve been trying to do, just getting on with my job in the team - and it has all sorted itself out.”
