BATLEY BULLDOGS are on the verge of completing an unbeaten pre-season, but coach Matt Diskin insists all that really matters is what happens when the serious business begins.
Bulldogs have defeated Dewsbury Rams, Wakefield Trinity and Keighley Cougars in warm-up games ahead of their Betfred Championship opener at Rochdale Hornets in eight days’ time.
They visit Doncaster tomorrow (3pm) and Diskin stressed: “I don’t read too much into pre-season. It’s not really about wins or losses, it’s about building towards the things you’ve been practicing.
“We have put a real focus on our first three [league] games and that’s all we are concentrating on. The first one is Rochdale and let’s start big against them.”
Of tomorrow, Diskin said: “I’ve spoken to Doncaster’s coach Richard Horne and we are both going to approach it the same way.
“It is a tough one because we are a week away from competition, but we want to keep the momentum of the stuff we’ve been working on.
“We will probably start with a pretty strong side and then we’ll rotate accordingly. We want to give players some decent game time while preparing for our first game, which is the big one for us.”
Meanwhile, Diskin has confirmed Patch Walker and Dominic Brambani as co-captains for 2018.
