Trinity seek to build on rare momentum

Wakefield ended a run of 16 successive Super League defeats when they came from 16-0 down to beat Hull 26-16 three days ago.

It was the perfect debut for Jordan Tansey, who had joined Wakefield from Castleford Tigers less than a week earlier.

Tansey had a spell at Hull, but insisted that didn’t make Wednesday’s win or tomorrow’s rematch at KC Stadium any more special.

He said: “I’ve had that many teams, it doesn’t really matter! It was just good to get a win, whoever we played. We had not had a win since the first two games, but coming into the middle-eights we need to start hitting form in the last few league games. We’re going to try to pick up some momentum now leading into the play-offs. It was good to get the win and hopefully there’ll be more to come.”

There was no sign of Wakefield ending their losing run in the opening quarter. Tansey admitted: “The first 20 minutes was nowhere near good enough.

“We made too many one-on-one misses, but we were in it for the second part of the first half and I think we dominated the whole game after half-time. If we can do it for the full 80 minutes, we will give ourselves a chance.”

Hull will be desperate for a win tomorrow to revive their top-eight hopes and Tansey predicted: “It will be tough, playing them twice in a few days, but we’ll just try and do the same again.

“We need to keep this momentum going. In the second half we completed 19 out of 20 sets and if anyone does that they will give themselves a really good chance.

“It’s hard to beat a team if they complete like that, so we have given ourselves something to build on. We’ve got four games left and there’s some really tough ones coming up, but we just need to keep building to make sure we are in the right frame of mind for the middle-eights and the games that really matter.”
