Three sent off as Raiders rise to Leeds neighbour's cup challenge

Oulton Raiders earned local bragging rights and a place in tonight's Ladbrokes Challenge Cup second-round draw with a 28-0 win at East Leeds.

Dom Flanagan scored a brace of tries and three goals and Danny Macintosh crossed twice and added one conversion, with Jonny Austin also touching down. Easts had Jordan Normington sent-off in the first half and George Clark sin-binned and then sent-off. Flanagan was also dismissed.

Hunslet Club Parkside also progressed thanks to a fine 23-16 success at Thatto Heath, but Leeds’ other representatives, Stanningley, were beaten 28-16 by visitors Pilkington Recs.

Thornhill Trojans went out 8-6 at Hull Dockers. Sam Ratcliffe scored Trojans’ try and Joel Gibson added a goal.

Other teams through to the second round include Shaw Cross Sharks, after a 22-14 victory at London Chargers, Featherstone Lions, who pipped hosts Royal Navy 20-18 and Lock Lane, 16-0 victors at West Bowling.

Normanton Knights lost 31-18 at home to Distington.

The second round will be played on the weekend of February 13/14.

The draw will take place tonight from 7pm at RAF Coningsby and will be conducted by Batley Bulldogs boss John Kear and Sheffield Eagles’ Mark Aston.

Kear coached Sheffield to Wembley glory against Wigan in 1998, when Aston was man of the match.
