Rovers, Rams and Bulldogs at sharp end of Championship

DEWSBURY RAMS, Batley Bulldogs and Featherstone Rovers could all be in the Kingstone Press Championship's top four by the end of this weekend if they win and other results go their way.

Sixth-placed Rams visit London Broncos, who are second, today (3pm) and coach Glenn Morrison said: “Apart from Batley on Good Friday – who are top of the table – we play four full-time teams in a row.

“It is a tough run, but we have got to show we can compete with the top sides. We know we can do that if we play our best and we know we’ve got to get some points from these next few games.”

Morrison added: “We have had the upper hand against London recently, but that doesn’t count for anything.

“We have got to make sure we turn up on the day. We haven’t been at our best, but if we are we know we can match them.”

Rams have loaned Jason Muranka to Newcastle Thunder and James Delaney to Hemel Stags, both on a one-month deal.

The Championship’s big game tomorrow is at table-topping Batley where third-placed Bradford Bulls are the visitors (3pm).

“I am excited, the players are and I think the whole club is,” said Bulldogs coach John Kear.

“It will be our biggest crowd of the year, if Bradford win they go top and if we win we stay there. It is also another measure of our capabilities and what can be our aspirations for the future.”

Seventh-placed Featherstone visit Swinton Lions, who are without a point so far, tomorrow (3pm).

“We will approach it the same way we did Bradford and Dewsbury and every game we’ve played,” coach Jon Sharp said.

“The focus is on ourselves and trying to be as good as we can be. We are not at a stage where we can spend too much time on the opposition, but we know Swinton can play and if you don’t turn up in this division, you get beaten. Every week there is a surprise and we don’t intend to be this week’s.”

Sharp said playing for the full 80 minutes is Rovers’ target. “At the moment we are a 60-minute team,” he observed. “We are playing really well for 60 minutes and we need to reduce the time when we’re not so good.”
