Rovers dropped to fifth in the Betfred Championship after a 14-7 home defeat by London Broncos two days ago.

Their hopes of a place in the middle-eights now rest on them winning at league leaders Toronto Wolfpack in Saturday’s final game of the regular season and at least one of Toulouse Olympique, London and Halifax – who are all one point ahead – slipping up in games against sides near the foot of the table.

Toronto have never lost a home game, but Duffy insisted Rovers’ approach will not change.

“It’s the same as it has been for the last couple of months – we need to go there and get a result,” he said. “It is going to be a massive game.”

Rovers led 7-0 at half-time against Broncos and Duffy admitted the entire camp were “pretty devastated” after failing to hold on.

He said: “We were in control for large parts of the game.

“There were two instances in the game, the interception we threw wasn’t needed and then we get ourselves back in full control and get a drop-out, but then we let it go in touch and the tide turned straight away.

“You can’t do it in big games and I am sick of saying it to be fair.

“Our errors, two errors there, have let us down in a massive game.

“I thought we were in complete control and I thought London were about to fold at that point.

“Their body language wasn’t too great, so we are devastated.”

It has been a similar story in other meetings with top sides this year.

Duffy insisted: “You can’t fault the effort of the players.

“They all wanted it and they were pretty upset in the changing rooms.”
