Rams suffer another body blow but grow in on-field confidence

“Tom Hemingway did his ankle in the first set,” Rams coach Glenn Morrison said. “We’re not sure how bad it is yet, but he heard something pop.

“He is going to get a scan, but everybody else is good.”

Rams gave Saints a fright before losing 38-18 and Morrison added: “It was good, the boys played really well.

“They came out pretty strong, but we defended our line well and we went in at half-time ahead, which was deserved.

“In the second half the fitness fell away a bit, but it could have been better. We bombed a couple of chances and dropped a bit of ball trying to play footy.

“Overall, I was impressed – we played good footy and worked hard for each other.”

Morrison added: “We’ll get a lot of confidence out of it. It was only a friendly, but we had a dig against a top Super League side.

“To go in at half-time 14-10 up is no mean feat. There’s still a lot to improve on, but we can work from there.”

Rams have no game this weekend, but conclude their pre-season programe against London Broncos a week before the Kingstone Press Championship begins.

Eight players were on the injury list ahead of last Sunday’s game; Morrison hopes to have several back for a second-team warm-up game the week before the season starts.
