National Conference League: Leeds clubs complete a win hat-trick

LEEDS' THREE sides all made a winning start to the National Conference Division One season.

Under-18s Ben Smith, Scott Malpas, try scorer Liam Gaunt and Liam Brown all impressed in Hunslet Warriors’ 22-14 success at relegated Hull Dockers. Caldon Bravo, now concentrating on his playing role after a spell as coach, scored two tries, Dave Norton also crossed and Gary McClelland landed two conversions and a penalty.

Hunslet Club Parkside began with a 42-20 demolition of Featherstone Lions, who had Gareth Gale sent-off for an alleged shoulder charge after 18 minutes. Jamie Fields scored two tries and five goals, Michael Waite also bagged a brace, Andy Hullock, Danny Harrison and Ben Shulver were the other try scorers and Danny Rowse added two conversions. Jake Perkins, Scott Glassell, Joe Fox and James Kitchen were Lions’ try scorers and Ian Jackson added two goals.

James Barker scored a hat-trick in Milford Marlins’ 28-14 success at Ince Rose Bridge. Zak Snellgrove and Mark Judge added tries and Ryan Oxtoby kicked four goals.

In Division two, East Leeds saw off visitors Leigh East 36-6. Try scorers were Jordan Normington, Shane Plunkett, Lee Priestley, Ben Walkin, Adam Hartley and Rhys Kilbride and Nathan Conroy landed six goals.

Oulton’s 33-21 loss at Saddleworth Rangers was tough on Dom Flanagan, who scored four tries. Kieran Walpole kicked two goals and James Cruikshank landed a drop goal two minutes from the end.

Niall Murphy scored a try and three goals for Stanningley in an 18-6 win at Gateshead Storm in Division Three. Josh Tate and Glen Metcalfe also crossed.
