WIGAN WARRIORS boss Shaun Wane has told his side to prepare for tonight’s game against Leeds Rhinos as if they are gearing up for Old Trafford.
Wigan are seeking a ninth successive win and their hosts are bottom, already doomed for the Middle Eights.
But Warriors are down on numbers and Wane insisted: “My chat this week is like we’re playing them in the Grand Final.
“I need something really special off everybody.
“I’ve still not forgotten what Leeds did last year; winning three trophies was a massive effort, unbelievable.
“I know how hard it is to win two trophies so to win three is magnificent. They deserve all the credit.
“They’ve lost a couple of players but I’ve said all year that they will be back playing really well as they’ve got too many good ones and it’s just our luck that this game’s coming now.
“I don’t take notice of the table; Leeds are playing really confidently.
“They play with loads of energy, they’re hard to defend against and you watch Leeds at Hull last week, they were the best team.
“Hull couldn’t handle them at times; that was the Rhinos of last year.”
Ex-Great Britain prop Wane played for Leeds between 1990 and 1993.
He added: “I love going there.
“I’d like to have gone there with a really strong team with no injuries but unfortunately that’s not going to be the case.
“But we’ll be going there with 17 people hell bent on getting another two points.”
