Star Australian stand-off Todd Carney is set to watch from the sidelines when Catalans Dragons take on Leeds Rhinos in Perpignan.

The controversial ex-Test pivot – a former winner of the Dally M Medal as the best player in the NRL – suffered a torn quad in last week’s defeat at Hull and is not included in Catalans’ initial 19-man squad.

Rhinos will be wary after Carney made a surprise appearance last week, despite being omitted from the 19 because of a broken rib.

The home team will also be without last week’s wingers Michael Oldfield (knee) and Vincent Duport (shoulder).

Half-back Scott Dureau will return and Ben Pomeroy, Mathias Pala, Benjamin Garcia and Antoni Maria have all come into contention after not featuring at Hull.

Leeds could welcome back forward Mitch Achurch following a two-game break due to a knee injujry.

Josh Walters, who has yet to make a senior appearance this year, is also included in the initial 19, but Rhinos are without experienced trio Tom Briscoe (shoulder), Kevin Sinfield (hamstring) and Kylie Leuluai (rib).
