england centre Kallum Watkins is poised to return for Leeds Rhinos at St Helens tonight, after missing last Sunday’s win over Salford Red Devils due to illness.
Watkins has been named in Rhinos’ initial 19-man squad, along with the players on duty five days ago and German international Jimmy Keinhorst, who could make his first Leeds appearance of the season. Keinhorst, a specialist centre, has been playing on dual-registration for Rhinos’ Kingston Press Championship partner club Hunslet Hawks, turning out recently in the second row. He is set to figure tonight after Ashton Golding, who played against Salford, featured for the under-19s last night. Rhinos are still without wingers Tom Briscoe and Ryan Hall, prop Kylie Leuluai and second-row Jamie Jones-Buchanan. Rob Burrow is set to make his 450th career appearance.
Saints are missing full-back Lance Hohaia and centre Matty Dawson from the side which won 11-8 at Huddersfield Giants last Sunday. Josh Jones, Jack Ashworth, Olly Davies and Matty Fleming are the players hoping for a call-up. “Leeds are flying at the moment and have strike all over the field,” Saints’ assistant-coach Sean Long said.
“We need to match them up front, but we came out of the Huddersfield game with a bit of confidence.”
