challenge cup holders Leeds Rhinos will stick with a winning routine for their “biggest game of the season so far”, chief executive Gary Hetherington has confirmed.
“Last year the team went into camp before every Cup game, that worked and they will be doing the same this season,” Hetherington said ahead of Saturday’s Ladbrokes-sponsored sixth round tie at home to Huddersfield Giants.
“It is our biggest game of the season and it continues our run of having pretty tough ties over the last three or four years.
“Over the last decade we’ve had a terrific run in the Challenge Cup, we’ve won more games, more quarter-finals, more semi-finals and been in more finals than anyone else.
“Unfortunately in most of the finals the other team played better on the day, but we experienced winning the Cup last year – which is a much better feeling – and there’s a real determination among the players to get back there and do it again.”
Hetherington has urged supporters to turn out for Saturday’s tie, rather than watching the game on television.
He added: “There was a real sense of achievement last year and that we were all in it together.
“There’s a different feel about the Cup, it is sudden death and you have to be at your best on the day.
“We have a great chance of going all the way again and the fans have a big part to play in that.”
