Veteran prop Kylie Leuluai is a surprise inclusion in Leeds Rhinos’ initial 19-man squad for tomorrow’s trip to Widnes Vikings.
Leuluai has not played since suffering a biceps injury in the defeat at Warrington on March 24. He has undergone shoulder surgery and was expected to be sidelined until the end of May.
Rhinos coaching staff will decide after the team’s final training session whether to recall the 37-year-old.
Stevie Ward, who missed last week’s draw at Huddersfield due to an ankle injury, is also included in the initial 19.
Captain Kevin Sinfield was dropped for the Giants game, but is in contention to feature tomorrow and Josh Walters, who has been playing on dual-registration for Hunslet Hawks, could make his first Rhinos appearance of the season.
Jamie Jones-Buchanan, who made his comeback from a hamstring injury against Giants, misses out with a sore hamstring, and there is no place for young prop Robbie Mulhern, after successive appearances on the bench.
Eamon O’Carroll and Danny Tickle drop out of the Widnes squad, with Patrick Ah Van, Gil Dudson, Macgraff Leuluai and Matt Whitley vying for a call-up.
