FEATHERSTONE ROVERS have pledged to take action against a fan who ignited a firework in the Community Stand at Big Fellas Stadium during Saturday’s defeat by Leeds Rhinos in the First Utility Qualifiers.

The firework produced a loud explosion five minutes before half-time as Rhinos’ Liam Sutcliffe lined up a conversion attempt from the touchline in front of the stand.

Rovers say the culprit was identified and ejected by stewards.

A spokesman said: “The club and the authorities will take the necessary action to ensure this individual is dealt with accordingly and apologies [sic] to those near the incident for any distress caused on what was, in the main, a fantastic afternoon.”

Meanwhile, stand-off Joe Sanderson scored a hat-trick of tries and kicked seven goals for Leeds Rhinos under-19s in a 50-20 win at Wakefield Trinity Wildcats.

Hooker Sam Hallas bagged a brace of touchdowns and Leeds’ other try scorers were Charlie Brown, Jack Norfolk, Harry Boyes and Harvey Hallas.

Liam Senior crossed twice for Wakefield. Shaun Wooffitt and Sam Blake also touched down and Tom McGretton added two goals.

Meanwhile, Rhinos’ Cameron Smith was man of the match for England academy in their 50-12 loss to Australia Schoolboys in Cronulla.

His Leeds teammate Mikolaj Oledzki was among England’s try scorers.
