Leeds Rhinos v Hull KR: Lunt's hoping Leeds will be distracted by overseas trip

Lunt – a Grand Final winner during a loan spell with Rhinos in 2012 – is from Cumbria, but has strong Leeds United connections.

So he was delighted when he heard the Betfred Super League round-two fixture would be staged at Elland Road, during the redevelopment of Emerald Headingley.

“My brother-in-law played for Leeds’ academy and the family are all mad Leeds United supporters,” Lunt revealed.

“To get chance to go there and play at Elland Road is fantastic. I drive past it many times with my kids in the car; when it was confirmed I said ‘daddy’s going to be playing there’ and the kids got really excited, so it is going to be a good experience.

“It is great to play at all these different stadiums, like Newcastle [for the Magic Weekend], Old Trafford and Wembley.

“It’s something no-one can take away from you and I’ll look back on my career and be proud I’ve played at such great places.”

After a 28-6 home defeat by Wakefield Trinity last week, promoted Hull KR are looking to bounce back.

“We need to get used to that intensity,” Lunt said.

“Wakefield are a very good side and they are even better this year than they were last year.

“We were under no illusions going into last week’s game, they were just better on the day.

“We didn’t play anywhere near how we could.

“We need to sharpen up a few things, we know that.

“We’ve got the champions to play this week and hopefully they’ve got both eyes on next week [the World Club Challenge] and they slip up, but knowing the Rhinos, we can’t count on that.”
