The open-age side could compete in the Women’s Super League next year.

It will play at the University of Leeds’ Sports Park, Weetwood, with some fixtures being staged as curtain-raisers to Betfred Super League games at Headingley.

Rhinos also hope to run an under-19s team.

Guests at tomorrow’s event in the Premier Suite at Headingley Stadium (7pm start) will include Leeds Rhinos chief executive Gary Hetherington, Rhinos player Mitch Garbutt and Leeds Rhinos Foundation’s women and girls’ development officer Lois Forsell, who is an England international.

BBC television presenter Tanya Arnold will be the guest speaker. The launch is open to women interested in playing for the new team and taster sessions and try-outs will be held next month.

A club spokesman said the launch will “explain more about the vision for the women’s team and Rhinos’ ambition to create more opportunities for girls to get involved in playing rugby league”.

Forsell said: “Leeds Rhinos Foundation now engage with more girls and women playing rugby league in Leeds than ever before.

“Offering an opportunity and a pathway for them to play for our own team will help the women’s game grow even further.”
