Leeds Rhinos nostalgia: Marvellous McGuire's at the double to see off plucky Robins

When it comes to local talent at Headingley Carnegie Stadium there will always be one player that has shone throughout and his name is Danny McGuire.

The 33 year-old from Leeds has been at the club since 2001 and is still competing at the highest level despite some recent injury problems.

The majestic half back has been a revelation with the Rhinos. With his rapid pace he could go past anyone like a flash and create and touch down tries at any given moment.

He was the first person in the Super League era to score over 200 tries and is still the top point-scorer in the competition.

With the Rhinos he has so far scored 261 tries in 386 appearances, has won the Super League an astonishing seven times, World Club Challenge three times, the League Leaders Shield three times and the Challenge Cup twice.

He also been capped 22 times by Great Britain and England scoring nine tries.

The Rhinos supporters still chant his name and he certainly still has a massive role to play at the club.

McGuire scored a brace of tries in a thrilling contest as the Rhinos won 25-24 over Hull KR at the Lightstream Stadium in 2012.

After going behind early on through Graeme Horne converted by Michael Dobson, the Rhinos responded with McGuire touching down and Sinfield kicking the conversion to make the scores level. However, tries from Josh Hodgson and Dobson, both converted by Dobson meant Leeds were 18-6 down at the interval. The Rhinos came back strongly in the second half with Ryan Hall and then McGuire scoring again with Sinfield’s goal and penalty levelling the scores at 18-18.

A Carl Ablett try took the Rhinos ahead for the first time, but a Louis Sheriff try and Dobson goal meant Hull KR were back in front with 20 minutess remaining.

But in the final ten minutes a Sinfield penalty and drop goal gave Leeds a dramatic victory in East Hull.
