Carl Ablett scored Rhinos’ only try, with Kevin Sinfield adding a goal, in a 17-6 defeat by Hull FC, in front of a 17,424 crowd at Headingley.

Leeds were beaten 22-21 by Bradford Bulls in front of a 21,102 crowd at Odsal.

Paul Deacon’s last-gasp drop goal broke Rhinos’ hearts after a try, four goals and drop goal from Kevin Sinfield, plus touchdowns by Wayne McDonald and Willie Poching, seemed to have earned Leeds a draw.

2001

A broken jaw suffered by hooker Robbie Mears – in a tackle which earned Sonny Nickle a nine-game ban – marred Rhinos’ 23-18 win over St Helens at Knowsley Road.

Rob Burrow bagged a brace, Mark Calderwood and Francis Cummins also touched down and Sinfield kicked three goals and a drop goal.

1969

Barry Seabourne booted four drop goals – then worth two points – as Leeds hit back from five points down at half-time to beat Hull 30-9 in Yorkshire Cup first round tie at the Boulevard.

Bev Risman scored a try and five goals and John Langley, Mick Shoebottom and Alan Smith also crossed.
