Leeds Rhinos: Milestone man Hall's got his sights set on more glory

He is set to win his 30th cap when England face Scotland in the Ladbrokes Four Nations at Coventry’s Ricoh Arena (5.30pm). And he will maintain – and potentially improve – his average of a try per international appearance if he gets over the whitewash.

Hall took his tally to 29 touchdowns in as many appearances with England’s second and final try in last Saturday’s 17-16 loss to New Zealand.

“I love every time I play for England,” said Hall, who made his debut in 2009.

“I think it’s a great honour and one of the best things you can do as a rugby league player, representing your country.

“And if you’d have asked me when I first started out would I ever get one cap never mind 30, I’d be hard pushed to say yes.

“I’m really proud of this, to get 30 caps and the try scoring is just a by-product of playing in a good team.

“As a winger you tend to score more than those in the middle, but you need a good team around you to supply you with decent ball and luckily I’ve played with some good teams along the way.”

Hall’s consistency has made him a key member of recent England teams. He said: “The consistency aspect is what you need to play international rugby. It’s fine lines between winning and losing. As you saw at the weekend we lost by a point and probably weren’t our most clinical in some areas towards the back end of the game.

“I think we blew some opportunities and ultimately that’s why we lost.

“And that’s throughout the whole game of international rugby, but it’s just what I’ve managed to do quite well in my career.”

England have been accused of having a losing mentality after yet another narrow defeat, but Hall insists that is not the case.

He stressed: “You have to get your mindset right – that’s just a given – but I think we have the right people in our squad and some champion players who have won great accolades along the way so they know how to win. I don’t think it’s a mentality thing as everyone’s got the right mentality to win.”
