Leeds Rhinos: Leeds not chasing a lost cause says Falloon

But the Australian No 9 says Rhinos have to focus on getting back to winning ways at home to Hull tonight, rather than stressing about their position on the table.

Rhinos have come off a run of games against teams around them on the ladder, losing successive matches to Castleford Tigers, Wakefield Trinity Wildcats, Hull KR and Salford Red Devils.

Those results have left last year’s treble-winners six points adrift of the top-eight and facing the prospect of being thrust into a relegation battle against the Kingstone Press Championship’s leading quartet in this summer’s Qualifiers.

Rhinos will climb a place to 10th in First Utility Super League if they beat Hull at Headingley this evening as Hull KR are involved, along with Wakefield, in Ladbrokes Challenge Cup action this weekend.

Another defeat would leave them with a mountain to climb, but Falloon said Rhinos’ have to put the situation on the table to one side and concentrate on the next game – and getting their performance right.

“We are just focusing on Hull this week, that’s our priority at the moment,” Falloon stated.

“I think that’s the way to do it. We haven’t been getting too many wins and I think as soon as we get that first win we will gain a bit of confidence and kick on from there.”

It has been a tough start to Falloon’s career with Leeds Rhinos.

He missed the opening five games of the season due to a broken toe suffered in training and has been on the winning side for his new club just once.

“It has been frustrating,” admitted the former Gold Coast Titans No 9.

“But that’s rugby league – we are all in it together.

“That’s the best thing about it. You get to train with all your mates and go out at the weekend and give it your best shot.

“Everyone is low on a bit of confidence at the moment, but I feel it’s not too far away.”

Of his own form, Falloon added: “I’ve played a few games and I haven’t been particularly happy about my last couple of performances, to be honest.

“I need to be better than that and I will be doing everything I can to rectify that.

“I’m sure once the team gets on a roll we can all pick up our form and move on.”

In contrast, Hull are on a five-game winning run and climbed to third in the table at the start of Super League round 11.

“They are going really well this year,” Falloon said.

“I know a few of their boys – Mark Minichiello and Steve Michaels – and they have been playing some good footy.

“We will have to play well against them, because we need to win. That’s the main focus for us.

“It has been frustrating, but that’s the way rugby league goes sometimes.

“It is just important to get the two points.

“We are at the wrong end of the table at the moment, so the sooner we turn things around the better.”
