Leeds Rhinos: Injury-hit Leeds look to Briscoe

LEEDS RHINOS have re-signed utility-player Luke Briscoe until the end of the season, to help them through their injury crisis.

Briscoe, 22, made three Super League appearances for Leeds in 2014. He spent last year at Hunslet Hawks, playing 17 times before a serious knee injury.

He has trained with Rhinos in recent weeks and been drafted into the initial 19-man squad for tonight’s game at Huddersfield Giants, along with 17-year-old academy loose-forward Cameron Smith, who could make his senior debut.

Zak Hardaker (head) and Brett Delaney (hamstring) – who were both hurt in last week’s defeat at St Helens – and Danny McGuire (calf) were originally named in Rhinos’ 19, but coach Brian McDermott confirmed they will not play.

Brett Ferres (calf) and Josh Walters (foot) could return after injury and Jordan Baldwinson, who played on dual-registration for Featherstone Rovers last week, is also in contention.

Craig Huby (pectoral muscle injury) and Kruise Leeming drop out for Giants, with Jake Wardle, Eorl Crabtree, Tyler Dickinson and Gene Ormsby all vying for a call-up.
