Leeds Rhinos: Ferres fuelled by confidence after win over Saints

NOT PERFECT, but better. That was how England forward Brett Ferres summed up Leeds Rhinos' second win of the season.

Rhinos bounced back from the previous week’s dismal effort against Wigan to stun St Helens 30-18 at Headingley Carnegie three days ago.

That result will send them into the busy Easter period, which begins with a trip to Castleford Tigers on Thursday, in good heart.

Ferres said: “It was certainly a better performance. Not great for us, but there were some decent spells.

“We came out really well and went 16-0 up. It was disappointing to let them back in the game, but we were tough and resilient.

“We got back to what we were doing and completing our sets, so it was certainly a pleasing performance.”

Ferres added: “It was really important to get a win.

“We are coming into a busy period now, but we have dug in and got a tough win and confidence is quite high from that.

“It will stand us in good stead. Things clicked a bit better, we seemed more fluent in what we were doing and we looked a lot more dangerous, so that was pleasing.”

After Thursday Rhinos are at home to Wakefield Trinity Wildcats on Easter Monday and entertain Hull KR four days later. Ferres said: “I’m looking forward to it.

“It is a tough period, but it is the same for everyone. We’ll review [Friday’s] game and look forward to Castleford, which is always a tough place to go.”
