Leeds Rhinos: Facing the Rhinos is a perfect return to Super League, says Mason

Mason, who played six games for Hull Kingston Rovers in 2011, is expected to make his Catalans Dragons debut against Rhinos in Perpignan today.

The former Australia Test prop, who was with Manly Sea Eagles last year, signed for the French outfit on a one-year contract earlier this month.

He said: “Leeds Rhinos are the champions and to go up against them in my first game will be a huge challenge, but one I am particularly looking forward to.”

Mason is confident this stint in Super League will be more successful than his first spell.

“I am really looking forward to a new challenge of playing rugby league in France,” he said.

“It inspires me. I love winning and playing against younger players who want to come and smash me and knock me off my perch.

“I pride my game on being dominant and I’m confident in my ability in the middle to play well in Super League.”

Mason, who has played rugby union in France, had hoped to link up with Catalans earlier, but was delayed by red tape.

He added: “I am delighted to have finally signed with Catalans.

“There were some clubs interested back home in the NRL and that would have been an easy option for me.

“But nothing ever came up in cement.

“The ironic thing is one month ago I had one passport (Australian) and now I have four (New Zealand, Samoan and Tongan).”
