Leeds Rhinos are up for big test against Wigan Warriors as players take positive Covid-19 tests in stride - Luke Gale

IT HAS been a difficult week for rugby league, with the positive coronavirus tests at Hull but the most important thing to say is I hope everyone who has been affected - the players, staff and their families - is all right.

It is massively unfortunate, for Hull and the game, but I think Super League and every club have followed the protocols really well.

Speaking on behalf of our lads, everyone has been great since we got back after lockdown and we’ve all done everything we have to under the guidelines.

What has happened at Hull, with six players and a couple of coaching staff testing positive, is one of those things; we didn’t want it to happen, but it has and I just hope everyone is okay.

The situation at Hull created some headlines and headaches for the administrators, but hasn’t caused me any concern, or any of the other boys as far as I know, in terms of our health and safety.

We will just follow the guidelines as we have all been doing and hopefully everyone stays safe.

With the fixtures reshuffle caused by Hull and Salford - who they lost to last week - not playing, it means we are in action on Sunday now rather than tomorrow.

We have got an extra day to prepare, but that won’t make too much difference to us.

We can’t do anything about it and our opponents Wigan are in the same situation, but coming off a loss like the one we had last week, it’s one of those times when you want to get back on the field as soon as possible.

The boys want to right some wrongs from last week, it wasn’t good enough and we want to bounce straight back.

Playing our game you are always going to get losses; we will probably have more losses this season, but I think it was the manner of the loss against St Helens that was the most disappointing thing and we want to put that behind us and move forward.

The only way to do that is to go out and play well against Wigan and hopefully get the two points. What a great test that is - it will be the first Leeds-Wigan game I have played in, but they are always big and it is a chance for us to prove we aren’t the team you saw last week.

Any Wigan side you play against is always going to be tough, they know how to find a way to win and that is probably their best attribute - they are tough and they grind it out.

There’s no better way to come off a disappointing loss like last week than to go over to Lancashire and take them on.

It is one I am looking forward to and we all just want to get back on the horse and right the wrongs.

We’ve only been away from Headingley once this season and that was six months ago at Salford, so it’ll be a bit different, but it’s just a case of playing well.

If we do that, everything else will take care of itself. As a player you’re not really bothered about where you play or when, you just want to get out there.

The preparation will be a little bit different, but we have all done it a million times before.

Finally, what a fantastic thing Wigan are doing this weekend, by wearing special shirts in Rob Burrow’s honour which will be auctioned off for his fund.

It is a great gesture; Rob has had many great games against Wigan over the years and I am sure they have been on the wrong end of many of his tries and bits of genius.

It is a nice touch and that’s the good thing about rugby league; you go out there for 80 minutes and try and bash each other but, at the end of the day, the sportsmanship is massive.

Things like that are why I am proud to be a rugby league player.
