I'll just get on with my job at Leeds Rhinos until told otherwise - Luke Gale

IT IS really tough for the fans who have booked travel and hotels but, as a team, we’re pleased tomorrow’s game at Catalans is going ahead.

I hope that doesn’t sound harsh; I know the club did everything they could to try and make sure supporters would be allowed in.

My father-in-law has booked to go out there and I’d got him two tickets so he is as devastated as anyone.

It’s a really difficult situation but, as a player, you always want the game to go on.

You don’t want to be playing catch-up, because that’s a nightmare.

The fixture list is jam packed as it is and playing midweek games later in the year is something we want to avoid.

I’ve never played behind closed doors before and I don’t suppose anyone on either team has so it is going to be strange, but it’s a great time for us to play Catalans.

Sam Tomkins, who has been in great form for them, is beginning a two-game ban so he won’t be available for them and we are playing really well at the minute.

When you are playing well you want to continue, so I would play them wherever – I’d play them on a park field if we had to.

We are itching to get the game going and to hopefully continue this good run we are on. If it had been called off that wouldn’t have been any good for anybody.

We would have to play it at some stage, we’re back in France in May and we have already got one midweek match to fit in after the Huddersfield game was cancelled last month.

It would be even tougher for Catalans because they’ve got two games in hand so I don’t think that was really an option.

We are happy to play and, if it’s behind closed doors, that’s disappointing, but so be it.

I’ll be able to tell you next week whether the atmosphere – or lack of it – has any bearing on the game.

I remember playing a couple of times for London reserves on what was almost like a school field and there was nobody watching then, but this will be very different with two Super League points at stake. I suppose it will be a bit like a training session, but more intense.

We play 13-on-13 at training sometimes and there’s no crowd then, but it is the same for both teams and we’ll just have to adapt and get on with it.

We are travelling to France today, via Barcelona and coming back the same route on Sunday. Personally, I am not worried about making the journey, despite the coronavirus.

I am quite laid back about these things, I am not a ‘prepper’ – I haven’t been out panic buying or anything like that.

I always leave things until the last minute anyway, but my partner Kirby is the opposite.

I am sure she’ll be doing enough worrying for both of us, but her main fear is probably having to spend two weeks locked in the house with me if we both have to self-isolate!

We haven’t gone to the extremes that Italy has, where they are on full lockdown, but it’s the unknown that’s the disturbing thing.

I think everybody is waiting to see how things turn out. Sports events are beginning to get cancelled now and I suppose rugby league could be affected at some stage but, until that happens, there’s no point stressing about it. As players, we’ve had the same sort of advice as everyone else, about handwashing and that sort of thing.

We’ve got medical people travelling with us, as normal, so we are in good hands.

As far as I am concerned – and I think the rest of the team will feel the same way – it is my job and I’ll get on with it until told otherwise.
