hunslet HAWKS have injury doubts over two players following their 34-26 defeat at Doncaster.

Hawks slipped to second from bottom in the Kingstone Press Championship after Doncaster’s first win of the campaign, two days ago and they face a huge game at third-bottom Batley Bulldogs this Sunday.

Hawks coach Barry Eaton said: “We are still getting it checked out, but Micky Lyons might have a dislocated thumb.

“He is struggling with that. Jimmy Watson has possibly fractured a finger, but we’re not sure it’s that serious and it might be a case of him getting it strapped up and playing.”

Eaton described last weekend’s result as “the first really disappointing defeat, we should have won”.

Hawks led 20-6 and 26-10 in the second half and Eaton said: “We have got to regroup now.

“A couple of big momentum swings went their way – they scored a try from a ball steal on Matty Gee and they got a penalty for a shoulder charge by Michael Haley which wasn’t a shoulder charge and scored off that. We struggled to cope when Doncaster were getting extra possession and energy, we didn’t get much of the ball and what little we did have, we gave away.

“We could not stem the tide. We have got senior players and as a group we should’ve been able to get a grip of it.”
