FORWARD Rob Kelly received the plaudits from player-boss Paul March for his contribution to Hunslet Hawks’ vital Northern Rail Cup win at Sheffield Eagles.

Hawks’ 16-12 success secured a place in the quarter-finals and March felt Kelly’s effort was a major factor in the win.

“He moved from the second-row to the front-row and was tremendous,” said March. “He put in a couple of long stints and so did Tabua Cakacaka.”

March added: “Defensively we were very strong at Sheffield. Conditions weren’t the best, but we handled them well and got our rewards.

“It is pleasing to have qualified, especially after losing our first game at Oldham and having a disappointing result against Batley.

“It is knockout football now, so if we get the right draw you never know what can happen.”

Hunslet returned from Sheffield with no major new injury concerns.
