HUNSLET HAWKS playmaker Andy Kain should find out this week if his season is over.
The scrum-half was injured in Hawks’ 45-28 Kingstone Press Championship defeat at Batley Bulldogs two days ago.
“We lost Andy after four minutes,” coach Barry Eaton said. “Luckily we had Danny Grimshaw back and he had a great game, but Andy has got a lateral knee ligament injury. He’ll be getting a scan this week and we’re hopeful it might not be bad, but it could be similar to Luke Briscoe; he might need an operation which would rule him out for the rest of the season.”
Eaton added: “It is a massive blow, when you think of how many key players we’ve been without.
“Danny Grimshaw is now back and fully fit and fighting and he will be a good addition, like a new player.
“But to lose Andy, when we’ve already lost Luke Briscoe – who was probably one of our best players this season – and James Duckworth is a massive setback for us.
“It’s unfortunate, but we have to get on with it, it is part and parcel of the game.”
Of Sunday’s performance, Eaton said: “We played well in patches. Their big men got some momentum on us at times and there were times when we struggled to contain their pack, but we played some good stuff – even though some things went against us, again.”
