Hunslet Hawks: Ruthless streak required by Hawks '“ Bramald

A SERIES of injuries have given Hunslet Hawks coach Matt Bramald a headache following his side's opening defeat in Kingstone Press League One.

Hawks were beaten 28-18 at Rochdale Hornets and three players were unable to finish the game.

“Ben Crane got an ankle injury and we lost Michael Haley after half-time with a shoulder injury sustained in the first tackle of the game,” Bramald reported. “He put his hand up to go back on, but he wasn’t right – he was in a lot of pain. Then we lost Danny Ansell as well in the second half with an ankle injury.

“The ankle injuries looked pretty nasty after the game. Ben left the ground on crutches, so we are a bit busted up. It will stretch us a bit, but that is the nature of the game and it is an opportunity for somebody else to step up and fill the gap and show they can come in and do a good job.”

Bramald felt Hawks “threw it away” after leading 14-10 at the break. He said: “We should have been out of sight before half-time, with the amount of chances we created.

“We need to develop a ruthless, clinical streak and make sure every opportunity we get, we take. We should have had two or three more tries, at least, in the first half.

“We lost our way in the second half, we were trying too hard to score, instead of being patient and going through our processes.”
