But Bramald’s men bounced back by thrashing Barrow Raiders in the Challenge Cup last Sunday and Bramald reckons that was an indication of what they are capable of.

“We are in good spirits and the boys will certainly go with confidence,” Bramald said.

“If we perform to a similar level as last week we will certainly be in the mix, with the potential to come away from Rochdale with the points.

“Pre-season has been good because we’ve played plenty of times against League One opposition and that will continue now we’ve drawn Doncaster in the Challenge Cup.

“We are getting plenty of indications as to what this league is all about. I think it’s going to be a competitive league.

“There’s plenty of teams with eyes on the top spots, but hopefully we can be in the mix.”

Hawks face a tough opening three games and Bramald added: “That will stand us in good stead, especially if we can get some points on the board.”
