Young, a product of the Redhill community club in Castleford, has made around 100 appearances for Newcastle and was League One’s young player of the year in 2017.

The 25-year-old is set to make his debut in Sunday’s home game against Doncaster and Hunslet coach Gary Thornton said: “We were devastated to lose Jimmy so soon after his return and with Kiedan Hartley also struggling with a hamstring injury, I thought it was important to look for a replacement specialist full-back.

“We have been very fortunate to bring Lewis into the group.

“He is an exciting player with his agile footwork and blistering pace and has a real eye for a gap on the end of attacking plays.”

Thornton added: “Whenever he has played against us for Newcastle, he has been a real threat from full-back and he has an impressive try-scoring record.

“He will really add to our attacking options and I’m looking forward to seeing him in action in Hunslet colours.”

Long-serving star Watson was hurt early in last Sunday’s League One win at London Skolars.
