Hunslet: Coyle proud of players' performance

A TASTE of playing at a higher level will benefit Hunslet, coach James Coyle reckons.

The Kingstone Press League One club gave a good account of themselves in a 20-6 defeat at Championship side Halifax in the Ladbrokes Challenge Cup fourth round.

“We went all right,” was Coyle’s assessment.

“There’s a couple of things we’ve got to learn from.

“Some of the mistakes we made at times when we were not under any pressure probably was the difference, plus a bit of strike when we got to their end.

“We spent a lot of time on their goal line. Our blokes have spent the last 18 months playing against teams who make bad decisions in D [defence] and who give you the ball instead of you having to create things.

“We lacked a bit of a cutting edge on their goal line.”

But Coyle, whose side are at home to his former club Whitehaven on Sunday, added: “On the whole, it was a really good effort. The boys worked really hard for each other against a big Halifax pack.

“They really stood up and a few of the young lads – like Jack Walton, Joe Kenga and Nyle Flynn – threw their bodies in front of them.

“I was proud of what they did.”

Coyle said Hunslet came through with no major new injuries.
