Hunslet bring in prop Hesketh but release winger Alrawi

Hunslet have signed experienced prop Sean Hesketh from Kingstone Press League One rivals Keighley Cougars, but released winger Omar Alrawi to his former team Hunslet Club Parkside.

Hesketh, 30, previously played for Featherstone Rovers, York City Knights, Halifax and had two spells with Batley Bulldogs.

Injury restricted him to just four games last year – one with Batley and three on dual-registration for Oxford – and he joined Keighley for the second time last September.

Hesketh recently left Cougars by mutual consent due to work commitments and Hunslet director of rugby Darren Williams said: “We tried to get Paddy [Hesketh] to join us in the off season, but he chose to stay loyal to the Cougars.

“However his work commitments have now changed and he’s been struggling to get over to Keighley for training.

“We currently have Lewis Reed, Michael Haley and Jack Coventry on the treatment table and we were looking a little light for middles.

“That’s why we moved to bring in Trae O’Sullivan last week on loan from Batley Bulldogs.

“The addition of Sean will add a different dynamic to the squad and increase competition for places.

“When we get some bodies back we will have some real selection headaches for our front-row options.”

Meanwhile Williams revealed Alrawi – who joined Hunslet from their amateur neighbours in the off-season – was unable to commit to the club’s training requirements and has been released at his own request.

Williams said: “Omar is returning to his community club Hunslet Club Parkside and we hope he has a successful season with them.”
