Hull versus Leeds Rhinos Cup tie takes a twist as Sneyd faces long ban

Sneyd has been charged with making Grade D dangerous contact with Rhinos half-back Danny McGuire in the 71st minute of Sunday’s First Utility Super League meeting between the sides at Headingley, which Leeds won 32-20.

The former Castleford Tigers man was sin-binned by referee Robert Hicks and charged after the incident was studied by the RFL’s match review panel.

He will appear before a disciplinary hearing at Red Hall, in Leeds, on Tuesday and faces a ban of three to five games if found guilty.

McGuire - who was also yellow carded, for kicking out at Sneyd - had to be helped from the field and is rated as a major doubt for Friday’s rematch, though indications today were that his ankle injury is not as serious as first feared.

Meanwhile, Huddersfield Giants forward Brett Ferres has been charged with Grade C punching on Widnes Vikings’ Rhys Hanbury in the 12th minute of Sunday’s Super League match at Halton Stadium.

Ferres, who was sent-off, has until 11 am on Tuesday to submit an early guilty plea, which would result in a two-game ban.

The match review panel issued a formal caution to Warrington Wolves’ Declan Patton for kicking out in a 78th-minute tackle in last Friday’s defeat at Hull KR.
