The 29-year-old, who was released by Castleford at the end of the season after making 28 appearances in two years, is following his Tigers team-mate Liam Finn to Belle Vue.

Gibson, who has played most of his rugby at centre, begun his career at Leeds Rhinos and scored a hat-trick on his debut against Leigh in 2005.

After four years at Headingley, a spell with Salford City Reds followed, as well as international recognition with England A.

The Leeds-born player made 28 appearances in Super League last season for Castleford, scoring 11 tries.

Speaking on his move, Gibson said: “I’m really excited to be joining the club. It is a new era here at Wakefield with Brian Smith, he has a wealth of experience and I am looking forward to working alongside him.

“I cannot wait to get started in pre season; Michael has brought in some fantastic players so far to add to the great bunch of lads that are already here.”
