BETTER FINISHING is required from Featherstone Rovers as they battle to stay ahead of Dewsbury Rams in the Kingstone Press Championship Shield.
Rams are just one point behind Rovers with two games remaining following their 34-16 win at Big Fellas Stadium two days ago.
It was Rovers’ first defeat in the Shield and coach Jon Sharp said: “We had a couple of opportunities and we just didn’t take them.
“We were 16-10 down and we had a couple of opportunities on our right side to score, but we blew them.
“We had a try disallowed – and Matty James swears he got the ball on the line.
“We had our chances and didn’t take them and when you are playing against a team playing extremely well, like Dewsbury did, it hurts.”
Thomas Minns will undergo a head test before Sharp selects his side for Friday’s trip to Hunslet Hawks.
“We have got a group of young kids in the team,” Sharp added.
“There’s probably six lads who would be playing in the reserves if we had a full squad.
“Paul Wood, Garreth Carvell, Paul Cooke and Andy Bostock are all missing and that makes it hard.
“The young lads are gaining experience which will stand them in good stead, but we also want to do well in the Shield and, if we can, win it.”
