FORMER LEeds Rhinos hooker Robbie Ward has signed a deal until the end of the season with Featherstone Rovers.

Twenty-year-old Ward, who is based in Normanton, spent four seasons at Headingley before having a spell in in Australia with Sunshine Coast Falcons, a feeder club for Melbourne Storm.

Ward, who returned to Britain from Australia on Tuesday, made 10 Super League appearances for Leeds.

He said: “It was a dream of mine to play rugby league in Australia and I had a great time there. With our partnership with the Storm I had the opportunity to play with some great NRL players but it’s good to be back home despite the weather.

“I know it’s going to be tough getting into the 17, the team is playing really well and I’m under no illusions how difficult it will be but I’m going to work hard to show Jon Sharp I’m worthy of a place. I still have ambitions of playing in the Super League and the way the team is progressing there is no reason why that can’t be with Featherstone.”

Rovers coach Jon Sharp said: “With any team there has to be competition for places and I’m delighted we have been able to secure his services. We’re moving in the right direction at the moment and the addition of Robbie will hopefully see us continue in that direction.”

Ward’s signing is a boost prior to this weekend’s trip to Dewsbury followed by the Summer Bash game against Halifax at Blackpool.
