Catalans Dragons scored two tries in the last eight minutes to stave off the threat of a shock defeat by part-time visitors Featherstone in the sixth round of the Ladbrokes Challenge Cup.

Rovers lost 70-12 on their only previous trip to Perpignan for a fourth-round tie in 2007 but they were 34-30 ahead and eyeing a trip to Hull KR in the quarter-finals until French internationals Morgan Escare and Thomas Bosc touched down late on to deny them.

Stan Robin kicked a drop goal to finally secure a 37-34 victory for the French Super League side, who were reduced to 12 men with the dismissal of former Wigan prop Jeff Lima.

But that should not detract from Featherstone’s efforts, something that netted Rovers six tries in total, scored by Foster, Ormondroyd, Marginet, Teasdale, Chappell and Verlinden. And this is something that several current Super League sides have failed to achieve in south western France so far during the 2015 campaign.

And Featherstone’s very own French star, Remy Marginet, took his personal tally into double figures by also landing four conversions, with Teasdale putting over a fifth as the Championship side gave the French outfit a mighty scare.

Catalans, having led 18-12 at the break, kept in touch with tries by Tonga, Bosc, Maria and Yaha, coupled with conversions from Bosc (4), Bousquet and Cardace, before the late-game try double and even later Robin one-pointer ensured the Dragons of a place in the quarter-finals.
